Springfield Outpatient vs. Inpatient Treatment

Most drug treatment centers offer outpatient and inpatient programs. Depending on your needs, you’ll find that one or both of these programs can help you best meet your recovery goals.

Outpatient Treatment

Choosing an outpatient treatment program allows you to begin recovery while still keeping up with your normal life. Instead of being in a controlled environment 24 hours a day, you’ll have the flexibility of choosing either an evening or weekend treatment option so you can continue enjoying your independent life and work. During that time, you’ll receive evidence-based and holistic strategies that help you resist cravings and experience long-term recovery.

Even though patients will not be in the treatment center full-time, they’ll still have access to support whenever they need it by joining an addiction recovery support group. Also, patients can expect to pay less for their treatment compared to those paying for a 24/7 rehab center program.

Inpatient Treatment

With an inpatient or residential treatment program, patients receive 24 hours of structure and support every day. This approach is especially helpful for people requiring accountability, professional and medical support and care throughout their entire treatment. Because patients stay in a completely sober environment, they won’t have to worry about giving in to cravings.

Patients won’t have any opportunities for relapse, and they will have access to medical supervision to help make the withdrawal process easier. Patients will be supervised and kept on a regular daily schedule to keep them motivated and on track.

Because everything is offered at one location, inpatient treatment is a convenient choice for those requiring more intensive care.

Who Benefits from Outpatient Treatment at an Alcohol and Drug Addiction Treatment Center

Outpatient addiction treatments serve as effective alternatives to inpatient options. You could benefit from an outpatient program if you:

  • Want to keep attending daily obligations like work or school
  • Have family or loved ones to care for during the day
  • Experience mild to moderate substance use disorder symptoms
  • Need a more affordable treatment option than inpatient services

Depending on your symptoms and situation, you may get more out of an inpatient program than outpatient care. Our team will help you determine which model will work best for you. If you need inpatient care, you can attend our other Springfield location’s residential program or another Gateway clinic.
