Our Downers Grove rehab offers substance use disorder and co-occurring treatment programs during the mornings and evenings, Monday through Thursday, from 8:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. and again from 5:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. Treatment consists of our eight core evidence-based clinical curriculum, including:

  • Dialectical Behavioral Therapy: Through dialectical behavioral therapy, patients will discover which behaviors, thoughts and emotions contribute to addiction. Then, they can begin the seven main components of the treatment plan to overcome a drug or alcohol addiction.
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy: Patients will learn how to change their thinking, beliefs and values with the help of our short-term cognitive behavioral therapy program. While learning how to overcome addiction and prevent relapse, patients will also discover healthy coping skills they can apply to future challenges. 
  • Motivational Interviewing: Motivational Interviewing is for all patients who desire to get more focused and engaged with their recovery process. By focusing on which steps are needed to make a change, patients are better equipped to begin — and successfully complete — their treatment.
  • Medication-Assisted Treatment: Once patients undergo a recovery exam, they’ll have access to prescription drugs designed to work with their overall treatment plan. Through medication-assisted treatment (MAT), patients will have an easier time managing their withdrawal symptoms. 
  • Mindfulness-Based Sobriety: Developing a mindful mindset enables patients to focus, process and deal with feelings. As part of Mindfulness-Based Sobriety, we offer various addiction treatment programs that can be incorporated into each individualized plan.
  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy: Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) can directly influence Mindfulness-Based Sobriety. This type of psychotherapy encourages patients to accept their realities and take positive actions toward their future. 
  • Trauma-Informed Therapy: Our trauma-informed therapy addresses acute, chronic and complex trauma in combination with a Seeking Safety program. 
  • Co-Occurring Disorders Treatment: Our treatment plans address co-occurring conditions at the same time to treat the individual and connected aspects of each disorder.

We utilize both individual and group therapy for a full, rich treatment experience, as well as appropriate medications if needed. Our licensed and credentialed staff are at the LCSW/LCPC and Masters LSW/LPC levels.

Addiction Treatment Staff

We have a clinically licensed LCPC supervisor doing one group and a Master’s level LSW doing the other evening groups with plans to offer morning treatment options. We work with community-based physicians and psychiatrists for MAT and mental health psychotropic medication needs for patients.

Executive Director

Dave Woods brings over 30 years of behavioral Health and substance use experience prior to joining Gateway Foundation in August 2020. After receiving his BS in psychology from Loyola University of Chicago, he began his career as an inpatient counselor for nine years before moving into business development then operations and administration. This experience brings a unique insight and perspective for the provision of programs and services to those in need.

Dave has held progressively responsible roles as Director of Business Development, Director of Intake, Program Director, Senior Director, Associate CEO and Vice President of Operations with other healthcare companies encompassing both single and multiple location oversight.

Dave obtained his MBA in 2005 and holds Silver certification in LEAN for Team Leadership of Mission Control, Value Stream Scoping and Analysis, Pull Systems, Standard Work, 6S, Visual Management and establishing a Model Flow Cell, as well as certification in FEMA Incident Command System.

Dave believes that everyone should have the same access to high quality care and services, and is honored every day to work alongside such a caring and highly dedicated group of people here at Gateway Foundation.

Tim discovered his passion for working with families and individuals who have been affected by mental health illness through various volunteer endeavors. In 2013, he made the decision to pursue a counseling career; so, he enrolled in National Louis Universities Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling program. Since then he has focused his efforts on working with non-profit organizations.

Tim joined Gateway Foundation in 2016 as a counselor working with patients on one of Gateway’s residential treatment units in Aurora, IL. In 2018, he transitioned to our Outpatient location in Joliet, IL. He currently holds the role of Program Director of Outpatient services at our Downers Grove, Gurnee, Joliet and Skokie treatment locations. Tim’s approach is patient focused. He is passionate about educating and providing individuals and families affected by Substance Use and Mental Health illnesses insight into the science of the disease process of these very treatable disorders.
